back to Luke Du's ugly page.
After installation, found to add more space.
- Use
fdisk -l to see the extra hard disk. Interesting that original hard drive is /dev/sdb while the new hard drive is /dev/sda.
- Create partition
cfdisk /dev/sda to create /dev/sda1.
- Format the new disk:
mkfs.ext4 /dev/sda1.
- Mount it to
/disk_k8s: mkdir /disk_k8s; mount -t ext4 /dev/sda1 /disk_k8s.
- Use
blkid /dev/sda1 to get this disk's UUID and use it in /etc/fstab file.
Now install docker.
- Create
/disk_k8s/lib/docker and /disk_k8s/lib/containerd and soft link to /var/lib/docker and /var/lib/containerd respectively.
- Just follow the docker doc to install docker
- The above approach may be too old? do not work, but stach overflow
provided solution. We need to
sudo systemctl start docker to start docker service, and sudo build . -t [image_name] to build image.
Now Kubernetes.
- Remove swap permanantly: comment out swap line in
/etc/fstab and reboot. To check it: free -h to see swap is zero.
- Check MAC address unique:
ifconfig -a.
- Check product_uuid unique:
sudo cat /sys/class/dmi/id/product_uuid.
- Install container runtime.
under cri-dockerd release list
The package only exists for Buster 10, Bullseye 11, while I have Bookworm 12. Should I downgrade?
- Download Bullseye one: https://github.com/Mirantis/cri-dockerd/releases/download/v0.3.3/cri-dockerd_0.3.3.3-0.debian-bullseye_amd64.deb
- Install:
sudo dpkg -i ./cri-dockerd_0.3.3.3-0.debian-bullseye_amd64.deb
- Continue using this version to see issues later.
Install Debian Linux under Oracle VM virtual box 7.0, then need to do the following:
- Use net-inst with ssh server and basic packages without X installed.
- Install net-tools
apt install net-tools such that we will have ifconfig to see VM IP address.
- Install sudo
apt install sudo then set existing use to it: usermod -aG sudo [user].
- VBoxLinuxAddtion
- Install linux header:
sudo apt install linux-headers-$(uname -r).
- Mount CDROM:
mount /media/cdrom.
- Install Addition:
sh VBoxLinuxAttions.run.
- FVWM, Conky, and Xrdp
- Install basic packages:
sudo apt install fvwm conky xrdp.
- For sound through xrdp, download:
wget http://mxrepo.com/mx/testrepo/pool/test/p/pulseaudio-module-xrdp/pulseaudio-module-xrdp_0.4-0mx19_amd64.deb
and install
sudo dpkg -i Downloads/pulseaudio-module-xrdp_0.4-0mx19_amd64.deb
- FVWM with conky autorun:
Get FVWM configuration file from system: cp /usr/share/fvwm2/default-config/config ~/.fvwm.
Edit ~/.fvwm/config file add: + I Exec exec conky.
Get Conky configuration file from system: cp /usr/share/doc/conky-std/conky.conf ~/.conkyrc.
Edit ~/.conkyrc file add IP address as example: ${color grey}Networking: ${color red} ${exec hostname -I} $color.
Sample [.conkyrc](sample_conf/dotconkyrc)
- Chinese terminal and inputs:
- RXVT terminal:
apt install rxvt-unicode.
- Create ~/.Xresources file add configuration for RXVT:
URxvt*font: xft:Monospace:size=12.
Use this configuration without log-off/login: xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources.
- Install Chinese fonts:
apt install fonts-arphic-ukai fonts-arphic-uming fonts-wqy-zenhei.
- Install Chinese input method:
apt install fcitx.
- Found the reason fcitx didn't work. Need extra package:
apt install fcitx-pinyin. 现在可以了。
- MultiMedia:
- Install them:
apt install chromium dolphin mpv gwenview.
- Dolphin without folder icon:
sudo apt install oxygen-icon-theme.
- Editor:
- Install VIM and Emacs:
apt install vim emacs.
- Download VS code and install it:
dpkg -i Downloads/code-[version].deb
- Samba:
- Install driver:
apt install cifc-utils.
- Create mounting points:
mkdir /mnt/data as example.
- Edit /etc/fstab to add line like
//wdmycloud/data /mnt/data cifs guest,uid=1000,gid=1000,file_mode=0660,dir_mode=0770,iocharset=utf8 0 0.
Here uid and gid with default 1000 for the first user and group. The file_mode and
dir_mode is setting for writable. The guest option is used if Samba allow guest access.
- With configuration under /etc/fstab we can mount manually by
mount /mnt/data or un-mount it
umount /mnt/data, respectively.
- Mini Conda:
Since Anaconda requires 3GB space, we like to install miniconda instead.
- Download Mini Conda.
- Install it:
sudo sh Downloads/Miniconda3-latest-Linux-x86_64.sh and configure to under /opt
- Initialize it:
/opt/miniconda3/bin/conda init to set base environment under ~/.bashrc file.
The next time when you start with bash, we will have this environment.
- Resource: Conda cheat sheet.
- Chinese Input in Emacs
Since fcitx failed to be loaded (not know why), try Chinese input from Emacs.
- Switch to Chinese input: Alt + x set-input-method with value chinese-py.这样就可以了
- Switch back to normal input: Alt + x toggle-input-method in case Ctrl + \ does not work.切换
- Add new user using existing group.
Command: sudo adduser --home /home/username --ingroup group-name username.
